Kathy Elias, LCMHC
Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor
About Me
I have worked as a psychotherapist for the past 14 years. I am a native of Pennsylvania and moved to North Carolina in 1984. I earned a B.S. degree in Management and Computer Science from California University of Pennslyvania. After working for eight years in the corporate world as a computer programmer and being dissatisfied with the path chosen, I decided to return to college to obtain a graduate degree. In 1996, I graduated with a Masters degree from North Carolina Central University, and completed my graduate internship at Duke University in the Career Development Center.
Realizing the importance to work on a much deeper level with people, I was offered a position in a methadone clinic where I worked for two years with those addicted to opiates. I spent the next four years counseling those addicted to alcohol and other drugs on an inpatient alcohol and drug rehabilitation unit and was one of three counselors who operated and facilitated an intensive outpatient program. My background in the field of addiction has prepared me to discuss many issues in life such as shame, depression, anxiety, grief, loss, anger, resentment, guilt, codependency, and certain attitudes and ways of thinking that get in the way of success.
I later followed the calling to open a private practice in 2006 and have been in practice since. I believe that the therapeutic relationship built between therapist and client is most important to each individual's ultimate growth and healing.
It can be a difficult decision to pursue therapy, and equally so an important one. It takes great courage to ask for help and to allow oneself to receive it. Please call me if you think that we would be a good fit or are wanting to find out.
Energy Psychology
I have a special interest in energy healing and have incorporated several energy strategies that include Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), and more recently Trauma Resolution Energy Therapy (TRET). My client's who have experienced EFT and TRET report relief in their symptoms and have noticed improvements with mood.
I continue to learn and understand the connection between the emotions and the body, and the importance of working through unresolved issues that create negative beliefs, thoughts, and emotions. All of which can lead to chronic diseases and illnesses. I love to watch lives transform as individuals choose to heal by working through their wounds and the positive impact that it has on overall physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being.
